Computer setup
What type of computers do you setup?
We setup Windows computers, including laptops, notebooks, desktops, and AIO computers. We do not setup Apple computers. For more information on our computer services, see Computer services.
Do you install and setup apps?
Yes, a computer setup will typically involve downloading, installing, and setting up a variety of apps, including email clients, internet browsers, printer drivers, office suites, and security apps.
We recommend only installing software that is compatible with the computer’s operating system. Installing outdated software can cause security vulnerabilities and even damage the operating system.
Before purchasing a replacement computer, we recommend a review of the “old” computer to ensure that any replacement meets requirements. This only takes a few minutes and is typically performed remotely.
Do you transfer personal files?
Yes, we transfer personal files, including documents, pictures, videos, and music. Where possible, we also transfer personal settings and preferences.
How is a computer setup performed?
All computer setups are different; however, a typical setup is performed in two stages. The first stage is performed from our workshop in Bury St Edmunds and involves setting up the new computer, transferring personal files, and installing required apps. The second stage is performed remotely or on-site and involves setting up and configuring any apps and equipment that require the client to be present.
What brands of computers do you setup?
We setup all personal computer brands, including Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, Asus, ZooStorm, MSI, Alienware, Corsair, Microsoft, and Samsung. Furthermore, we also setup custom-built systems, such as gaming PCs.
How long does it take to setup a computer?
Computer setup times vary depending on the amount of data being transferred and the number of apps being installed and configured; that said, a typical setup takes approximately two to three hours to complete, excluding large data transfers; for more information, see Long procedures.
How much do you charge to setup a computer?
We charge £30 per half hour (capped at a maximum of three hours per setup) for computer setups. Additionally, we have a long procedures policy to ensure that charges for longer works, such as transferring data, remain fair for all parties; for more information, see Long procedures. Replacement parts are charged separately.
Do you provide free estimates?
Yes, we will always provide an estimate before performing a setup. All estimates are free.
